If Apollo doesn't exist, how did the Oracle predict Oedipus's fate with such astonishing precision?

The prediction which prophesied he will kill his father and marry his mother caused a complicated chain of events which eventually led to him indeed killing his father and marrying his mother. Since it would take a GOD to predict all this from the beginning, I ask you, if Apollo doesn't exist, how did the Oracle know?
