Doughnut Grooms Cake/ Wedding Favors?

Ok, so I'm starting to plan our wedding and my fiance and I have been discussing cake ideas. He joking suggested that we have a Krispy Kreme doughnut wedding cake. I just laughed it off at the time, but then I started to think that it would be fun to surprise him with one (or a few smaller one's) as a groom's cake in addition to our wedding cake. My sister suggested that since probably not everyone will want a doughnut and a piece of cake, that maybe as wedding favors, I should do a candy bar with different candies in our wedding colors, and then let the guests fill a bag with a doughnut and candy. What do you think? I'm thinking I could have the doughnuts customized and decorated to make the really pretty and special, maybe our names in icing or something....? Any ideas?
